Hybrid Thick Film microelectronics has an increasing role in the field of medical electronics, ranging from equipment electronics to implantable devices and a range of sensors.

Hybrid technology is used in a number of sensing applications such  as blood gas analysis, where the thick film materials act as the sensors, reacting differently to gas concentrations.

Printable piezo-electric materials have been successfully used in the manufacture of an ultra-sound oesophageal probe

Shown here is a DC motor controller for a medical drill. Capable of delivering 20A continuous and 50A peak, this powerful motor controller is housed in a hermetically sealed metal package enabling it to withstand the rigours of autoclave cleaning. Control of the speed and direction is by use of Hall-effect devices through magnetically transparent windows in the package.
